Birdies for Charity: A Chance for You to Make a Difference

Birdies for Charity is a fun and stress-free opportunity to raise funds and notoriety for Mississippi charities.   MSHA is partnering with the Parent Information and Training Center in the Birdies for Charity event sponsored by Century Club Charities at the Professional Golfers Association annual Viking Classic Children, Charity and Championship Golf Tournament, September 18-21, 2008 at Annandale Country Club.  As a 501c (3) organization the center is allowed to accept tax deductible donations.  If successful, they will cosponsor with MSHA and use the proceeds from this event to hold a series of training seminars or a workshop for teachers, speech-language pathologists, and parents on strategies to meet the unique needs of people diagnosed with autism.

How It Works

Donors make pledges of at least $.02 for every birdie made during the 2008 Viking Classic (or they can simply opt to make a one-time $25 donation).  For the benefit of the non-golfers, a “birdie” means finishing a hole one stroke under par.   There are no out-of-pocket expenses.  Century Club Charities covers the administrative and promotional costs of the local program, notifies the donor of the amount of pledge due after the tournament, and collects all donations.  We will receive 100% of the pledges collected.  In addition, the Bonus Bucks program rewards us with more money than collected.  In 2008, Bonus Bucks will have a total of $30,000 that will be proportionally split among all charities that collect a minimum of $3000.

As an added incentive to donors, each person who makes a pledge to Birdies for Charity will be given the opportunity to guess the total number of birdies made during the 2008 Viking Classic.  The person who makes the correct prediction wins their choice of any one major kitchen appliance from the Viking Portfolio, as well as a Viking Culinary Package of cookware, cutlery, and countertop appliances.  Also included is a trip to Greenwood MS for a “Southern Hospitality, Viking Style” package that includes a two night stay in an elegant suite at The Alluvian Hotel and spa, spa treatment for two in the luxurious “Couple’s Suite”, dinner for two at Giardina’s Restaurant, and a custom-designed cooking class for two with an Executive Chef from the Viking Cooking School.  In case of a tie, the grand prize winner will be randomly selected.  Donors also qualify to win several other prizes from random drawings, including:  Viking cookware and Viking countertop appliances.

What You Can Do

This is a unique opportunity to generate funds to minimize the cost of a work shop or informational seminars for those providing services to and the families of people diagnosed with autism.   We are asking for participation from all MSHA members in soliciting pledges for this event.  With minimal effort from the members of our association we can make this happen.
