2009 MSHA CE Conference CEU Information

CEU INFORMATION by Virginia Berry, MSHA Vice-President: Continuing Education

The MSHA Conference is one of the richest professional development opportunities of the year.   To maximize your continuing education credits: Become familiar with the policies for earning credits.  If unclear, check with the Conference Registration Desk or Virginia Berry, MSHA Vice-President:  Continuing Education. Plan your schedule in advance, selecting sessions that do not overlap. Each attendee is required to submit their CEU Participant Form at the completion of the conference, prior to departure.  Forms are not accepted after this time (by mail, FAX, etc.).  Review on-site instructions before you arrive at the conference. No partial credit is allowed for the Pre-Conference. You must attend a session in full in order to obtain credit.  If you attempt to report two sessions that overlap in time, one will be disallowed. YOU MAY NOT SUBMIT CEU CREDIT FOR SESSIONS THAT OVERLAP IN TIME.  IF YOU DO, YOU WILL ONLY RECEIVE CREDIT FOR ONE OF THE SESSIONS. Each attendee is required to submit their CEU Participant Form at the completion of the conference, prior to departure.  Forms are not accepted after this time (by mail, FAX, etc.)

This year’s attendees have 3 possible options for obtaining CEU credit.

ASHA CEUs. This conference has been approved for ASHA CEU credit.  In order to receive ASHA credit, attendees must complete an ASHA Participant Form.  This form has been changed and only allows for an ASHA Membership/Account number to be recorded.  IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT ATTENDEES EITHER KNOW THEIR ASHA # OR HAVE THEIR MEMBERSHIP CARD WITH THEM.  THE ABSENENCE OF YOUR ASHA NUMBER ON THE PARTICIPANT FORM COULD LEAD TO A SIGNIFICANT DELAY IN PROCESSING YOUR RECORDED CEUs

ASHA APPROVED CONTINUING EDUCATION PROVIDERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT COURSE CONTENT OF EACH APPROVED OFFERING IS AT THE GRADUATE LEVEL OR HIGHER.

ASHA CEUs are granted only through the ASHA CE Registry.  One (1.0) ASHA CEU represents ten hours of instruction.  Fractional hours are dropped in reporting ASHA CEUs.  Therefore, 16.5 hours of instruction equals 1.6 ASHA CEUs.

The ASHA Continuing Education (CE) Registry awards ASHA CEUs on behalf of the Continuing Education Board, and maintains a permanent, cumulative transcript of your ASHA CEUs.  The ASHA CE Registry is open, at this time, to ASHA and NSSLHA members and non-members.  Due to probable delays in processing non ASHA members’ Activity Participant Forms because of the lack of a membership number, it is recommended that these individuals pursue Mississippi College credit, as described below.  Participation in the CE Registry is optional.  The Registry fee, payable annually, is $24 for members and $34 for non-members.  It is highly recommended to join the CE Registry.  Tracking of CE credit for certification and licensure purposes is much more convenient, simple and painless if you are a member of the ASHA CE Registry.  It will be the best $24 or $34 you spend all year! It is very important that you put your name on your ASHA CEU Participant Form as you believe it is on record with ASHA.  If you put a name you were previously known as, there could be a delay in processing your CEUs.

Mississippi College CEUs.  These recorded hours will be accepted by the Mississippi Department OF Education, as well as other agencies/entities.  THIS IS THE RECOMMENDED METHOD OF RECORDING AND REGISTERING CONFERENCE CEU’S FOR NON-ASHA MEMBERS WHO DO NOT HAVE A MEMBERSHIP NUMBER TO RECORD ON THE ASHA PARTICIPANT FORM, SUCH AS B.A. LEVEL INDIVIDUALS, PROFESSIONALS OTHER THAN SPEECH AND HEARING, STUDENTS, ETC.  Those applying for Mississippi College credit will be required to record code numbers for each session attended.  These code numbers will be provided during each session. To obtain your certificate you must contact MC Office of Continuing Education.  There is a sliding scale fee determined by the number of CEUs awarded, i.e. $5 for .5 CEUs , $10 for .6 to 1CEUs, etc.  Appropriate forms are available in the conference registration area (Crown Room).

Mississippi Department of Health First Steps Program CEUs for early interventionists.  Details on how to obtain these hours will be available at the conference registration area (Crown Room). Appropriate forms will be available in the conference registration area.

CONFIRMATION OF ATTENDANCE FORMS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE CONFERENCE.  THESE FORMS ARE DESIGNED TO FACILITATE REIMBURSEMENT BY YOUR EMPLOYER.  THEY DO NOT CONFIRM PARTICIPATION IN ANY CONTINUING EDUCATION ACTIVITIES AND ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR LICENSURE, CCC MAINTAINCE OR SIMILAR PURPOSES.  THESE FORMS MUST BE OBTAINED AT THE MSHA CONFERENCE.  THEY WILL NOT BE SENT TO ATTENDEES VIA MAIL, EMAIL, ETC. FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF THE CONFERENCE.
