Conference CEU Information Update

ATTENTION:  MSHA ANNUAL CONFERNCE ATTENDEES – Virginia Berry, VP: Continuing Education

Effective January 1, 2010, the ASHA CE Registry will no longer use the Social Security Number (SSN) as a choice for the identification number for the CE Registry accounts.  ASHA account numbers will be used EXCLUSIVELY as a means of identification of Registry users.  ASHA Participant Forms have been changed accordingly, no longer providing an option to fill in SSN’s.

ASHA began piloting this change in recording identification numbers last year and had already developed the new Participant Form.  At that time, approved providers were asked to begin using the form on a voluntary basis.  MSHA did begin the new policy (with new forms) at last year’s Conference.  Numerous email alerts were sent to members, information was included in the online Conference Program and on-site printed program and a handout was provided at Conference explaining the change.  Last year, there continued to be a fair number of attendees that did not complete their ASHA account number on the form.  They simply put no identification number.  Since the change was voluntary last year, ASHA did attempt to determine who these members were through other alternatives in their database, which did significantly delay the recording of their CEU’s.  This year, however, there is no option other than completing the area on the form requiring the ASHA number.

If you do not have your ASHA account number while filling out a CE Form, you may call ASHA’s Action Center at 1-800-498-2071 during normal business hours (M-F, 8:30am-5-00pm EST) to obtain your number.  DO NOT WRITE YOUR SSN ON THE FORM!!  This is very important as ASHA strives to secure members’ personal data.

Here are some tips to aid you in having your ASHA account number handy at all times:

  1. Cut the address label off of an ASHA Leader and store it in your wallet or purse.  It has your ASHA account number on it.
  2. Store your ASHA account number in your cellphone under contacts: ASHA number.
  3. Write your ASHA account number inside the cover of a notebook and bring the notebook with you as your note-taking paper for all CE activities.
  4. Carry your ASHA card with your Driver’s License in your wallet.
  5. Memorize your number as most members have!!!

REMEMBER – SSN’S WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED.  THE ABSENCE OF AN ASHA ACCOUNT NUMBER ON YOUR CE PARTICIPANT FORM WILL AFFECT THE GRANTING OF YOUR CEU’S.
