School-based SLP Workload Approach Survey

I am Karen Davis, a doctoral student in the Communication Sciences and Disorders: Language Disorders and Literacy Program at the University of Central Florida. In an effort to respond to school SLP’s needs, along with Dr. Barbara J. Ehren and Mr. Perry Flynn, I am engaged in a research project to assess the status of SLPs’ use of a workload approach in schools nationally. We define a workload approach as a framework for designing and implementing speech-language services in schools in which the speech-language pathologist thinks beyond delivery of direct services to students with IEPs and accounts for a variety of activities including face to face work with students (with IEPs and without IEPs), work on behalf of students, and a variety of other activities (e.g. general meetings, clerical work and routine tasks.)

We would greatly appreciate your completing the National Workload Survey which you can access via this link:;

It will only take you 10 minutes to complete the survey. The success of this project will depend on your response. Please help us to help you!

There are no anticipated risks for your participating in this research study. You may refuse to participate in the study and are free to discontinue the survey at any time. We will submit results for publication in a national journal, as well as disseminate the results through state coordinators of school speech-language pathology. This is an anonymous research study; therefore, no responses will be associated to any specific respondents. Thanks so much for your participation.
