216 Task Force Update
During summer 2011, the 216 Task Force members met in Jackson on July 15. In addition to reviewing the responses from the questionnaire sent to school districts and Emergency Certificate (EC) and Interim Certificate (IC) holders, the group heard reports from the four workgroups. The work groups and the chairs are: Scope of Responsibilities Guidelines for Speech Language Pathology Associate (SLPA), Georgene Johnson Supervision of 216, Beverly Ray Recruitment of SLP for the Schools, Carolyn Higdon Academic Programs, Lennette Ivy All the Work Group members have been working by conference calls and electronic communication in preparation for the September 21, 2011 Videoconference. We are making progress on defining the responsibilities of the 216 license holder and their supervisor. The academic programs are refining the coursework and practicum requirements for the Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders to prepare graduates for the 216 license. A work group is proposing cooperative recruitment efforts for increased placement of 216 license holders in our schools in Mississippi.
